phobia

Did you know that we’re all born with just two innate fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises? These pre-programmed fears are designed to protect us – and so are others we pick up throughout our lives.

But sometimes, the brain gets it wrong, and many of us develop debilitating phobias of non-threatening things that can affect our livelihoods, our health and our self-esteem.

Hypnotherapy can help reduce phobia symptoms and boost confidence in challenging situations.

Solution-focused hypnotherapy can alleviate simple phobias – that is, phobias of specific things – in just four sessions. This is made up of:

  • An initial consultation
Where you tell me about yourself, I explain how hypnotherapy works, and we chat about your phobia in as much or as little detail as you’re comfortable
  • A ‘stress-bucket’ session
Where we reduce the amount of stress that’s filling your brain’s ‘stress bucket’ – helping you relax and your sleep patterns become more efficient
  • A rewind session
Where we conduct exercises that help you mentally encounter your trigger in a safe, controlled way – feeling totally relaxed and removed from the situation – destroying the initial ‘template’ for the phobia and bringing down others with it
  • A reframe session
Where we create a new ‘template’ in the brain that helps you feel calm, confident and empowered when encountering your trigger in future

More complex phobias – like emetophobia, agoraphobia and phobias of heights, enclosed spaces or talking in groups – can take a little longer to resolve, following the same process I use for anxiety, stress or depression.

Rest assured that hypnotherapy is different from exposure therapy. You can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time, and I can’t – and won’t – make you do anything you don’t want to do. You’ll feel calm and comfy throughout our sessions, and there’s no chance of being re-traumatised or leaving any worse than you arrived.
