Much of what we know about smoking and vaping is a myth. We’re told that these habits reduce stress, that cigarette addiction is caused purely by nicotine and that cigarettes and e-cigarettes are near-impossible to give up. In reality:
- Smokers have a 70% increased risk of anxiety and depression when compared with non-smokers
- There's a behavioural element to smoking that contributes towards addiction on top of the effects of nicotine
- In the UK, over 100,000 people report quitting smoking each year
It’s also said that vaping is a safer alternative to smoking – but this isn’t necessarily true, either. Not only is there insufficient research for us to know the exact effects e-cigarettes have on the body and mind, but vapes contain a concoction of harmful substances like heavy metals and carcinogens we inhale directly into our lungs.
My hypnotherapy space is a judgement-free zone. I have loved ones who smoke and vape – my partner even used hypnotherapy to quit smoking 10 years ago now. I’m not here to tell you that your decision to smoke or vape is right or wrong – but if you want to switch off the habit, I’d love to help you do it, and do it for good.
